Walking Among the Giants

In May J and I went with my in-laws to California for J's first Marathon (and my second Half Marathon :)). We were far North in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park for the races and spent a couple of days exploring. When all the sights to see are trees, it can be tricky to get a lot of good shots without being monotonous. I stuck with attempting to show the length and girth of the trees with all available angles (brought my wide-angle lens with me) and trying to make shots interesting with varying the depth of field.

After awhile it can be easy to misjudge the trees...having a giant man like J in the shot really gives perspective!

My favorite experiment was using the panorama feature to try and get an entire tree in the frame...it's tricky since it's not set to go vertical, only horizontal, so you have to keep it really steady and do a back bend and it will still end up distorting the trees at the top. I thought it looked neat though.

We drove INSIDE a tree!

A more successful panorama shot
This week had a dearth of people shots but I have bunch locked and loaded for the coming weeks.
